The Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Nice
One of the most visited tourist buildings of Nice.
The Jewel of Orthodoxy, St. Nicolas Cathedral is considered one of the finest Russian monuments outside Russia and is now one of the most visited tourist buildings of Nice.
The Empress Maria Fedorovna and her son Nicolas II oversaw its construction from 1902 to 1912. The choice of location wasn’t chosen by chance, since it is the same site where Nicolas II’s uncle, Tsarevich Nicolas, died in 1865.
Its exterior is adorned with a white stone that enhances the soft brick walls.
The interior of the cathedral reveals a rich decoration, with many icons, murals and carved woodwork. It contains almost 300 icons, but carefully preserved within it is an impressive wooden iconostasis covered in bronze and engraved copper with gold leaf.

The cathedral has been a listed monument since 1987.
